Box ship grounded in Port Qasim channel refloated
The
authorities at Port Qasim rescued an inbound container vessel, which
ran aground in its channel on Tuesday morning, according to Business
Recorder.
Nedlloyd Brake, carrying hundreds of Pakistan-bound
containers, grounded at around 8am in the 45-km long navigational
channel of Port Qasim at Bandal Island near buoy number 14.
The
sources said that despite hectic efforts by PQA authorities, the over
300m long vessel took at least five hours to be re-floated at around
1pm. The operation division rescued the vessel through hiring a 60
ton-bollard-pull tug from a private company, they added. The ship is
said to have drifted from its route and ran aground due to engine
failure.
